The Books of P. N. Elrod

Patricia Nead Elrod is best known for her stories featuring vampires, including some written for the Ravenloft umbrella
series.

Bloodlist
The first book of The Vampire Files. This book is basically about a reporter in the 30s who is murdered.
Luckily for him, he had not long been bitten by a vampire and therefore comes back to life with the intention of tracking
down his 'killers' and exacting revenge. 'Bloodlist' tries to be a film noir in book form but actually reads as pretty
cliched. The characters are uninspiring and fail to engage you on an emotional level and the plot is much the same.
Also, the vampire element of the story isn't exploited very well and also falls into a series of cliches. This book
is only about 200 pages long, but I enjoyed it so little that I kept putting off reading on and it therefore took me about
two weeks to read (when 200 pages would normally take a couple of days).

If you liked Elrod:
There's a wealth of vampire fiction out there, but I personally recommend Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and the timeless
'Dracula'.
